Text: Acts chapter 3.
Have you ever had a divine appointment, a coincidence that had the fingerprints of God on it? These appointments are miracle moments which God has prepared to demonstrate His Kingdom in our broken world.
What is a divine appointment?
- It has been described as an incident or meeting that might initially seem to be random but is recognized as having been caused by God.
- The purpose may be obvious during the encounter, or it may only become apparent some time later.
- These events are also referred to as: good luck, good fortune, meaningful coincidence, synchronicity, Kairos moment or a God moment.
What is a miracle?
- By Webster’s definition, a miracle is a wonder, a deviation from the known laws of nature wrought by a supernatural being.
How to respond to a divine appointment:
1. Be in an attitude of prayer.
Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service. – Acts 3:1 NLT
- When I pray, coincidences happen, and when I don’t, they don’t. – William Temple
- You can do more than pray after you have prayed; but you can never do more than pray until you have prayed. - A.J. Gordon
2. Seize the moment and act in faith.
Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” – Acts 3:4 NIV
These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe… - Mark 16:17 NLT
Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? - Galatians 3:5 NKJV
- Divine appointments consist of three things: placement, timing and faith.
- The disruption to your plans is an opportunity to embrace God’s plan.
3. Call upon the name of Jesus.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. - Hebrews 13:8 NKJV
Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” – Acts 3:6 NKJV
And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. – Acts 3:16 NKJV
29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” – Acts 4:29-30 NKJV
And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. – 1 John 3:23 NLT
- I have a great need for Christ; I have a great Christ for my need. – Charles Spurgeon
4. Understand the purpose of any miracle is to demonstrate God’s love.
Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. – Acts 4:32 NKJV
- Our eyes should not be on the miracles but on Jesus. (John 6:26)
- Miracles stir up the people so that they are forced to deal with Christ’s deity and His claims.
