Are Believers Eternally Secure in Christ?

QUESTIONS

  1. Our view of salvation has consequences.
  2. The doctrine of unconditional eternal security is based on the teachings of from the 5th century, and especially promoted by during the Reformation of the 16th century.
  3. Security in Christ depends on our continuing faith and to His commands.
  4. How many if ’s are written in the Scriptures?
  5. The fact that at least out of 27 New Testament books are written to believers should demonstrate God intends for us to live out our salvation entirely.

Reflections

  • Consider the fifth conclusive truth offered in this lesson. How can we be confident of our salvation even if we are imperfect and fall short? What is the basis of our confidence? And how can we maintain a confidence before God despite our flaws and failures?
  • Lesson 3 discusses the seven works of repentance from 2 Corinthians 7:9-11. How does our understanding of eternal security and predestination affect our view of repentance?
  • Peter encourages us to “make our calling and election sure”, and gives us steps to ensure we will never fall. Reflect on 2 Peter 1:4-10, and consider the things that we should develop in our lives to ensure our salvation.
