Lose Control

Acts 1:6
6So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Luke 17:20-21
20Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, 21nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”

Observed=παρατήρησις (paratérésis): diligent watching as to guard over (control)

The Disciples and the Pharisees make the same mistake of wanting to

the establishment of the Kingdom of God.

Becoming a follower of Christ is all about the transfer of power and control from self to the Holy Spirit.

Romans 11:25
25Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.

The Kingdom of God and all of its

and is something we are participants in, not controllers of.

Acts 1:7
7He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.

Season= καιροὺς (kairous): fitting season, opportunity, occasion, appointed time

In this moment what the Disciples

to happen was not God’s plan.

In this moment what

want to happen may not be a part of God’s plan.

Isaiah 55:8-9
8For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.
9For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Acts 1:8
8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

The Disciples wanted Jesus to use his power to take over the world and establish his Kingdom

.

Jesus empowered the Disciples to take over the world and establish his Kingdom

.

2 Peter 3:8-9
8But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

Every day we have on this earth is a

of from God to humanity to allow more time for those who have not believed to repent.

Are we using every day as if it might be someones

chance to believe?

Acts 1:9-11
9And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

The Disciples witness the moment that Jesus returns to the Father to take his place as

of God’s everlasting Kingdom.

Daniel 7:13-14
13“I saw in the night visions,
and behold, with the clouds of heaven
there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
and was presented before him.
14And to him was given dominion
and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
that shall not be destroyed.
