Today we begin our time together in praise to our God who is so good, so magnificent, so loving, and so kind. We are in the part of the year where people are together. Laughter. Love. Celebration. Remembrance of blessings God has so graciously given. Luke 2.9-14 speaks of the glory of the Lord returning for the first time in 600 years. The child born that night wasn’t just any new born baby that had been born. It was something monumental. It was God who came out of heaven. John put it this way: The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. This is the most essential truth in Christianity. Today is a great opportunity to share Christ, why He came, and the hope He provides.
I. The Message of Grace
A. Luke 2:10: But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you
of great joy that will be for all the people:
- “I proclaim to you good news,” … is the word we use for evangelism.
- That should produce within us an inexpressible joy.
B. This wasn’t just good news for the Jews …
- Luke 2:10: I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for
the people: - Luke 2:11: Today in the city of David a Savior was born
, who is the Messiah, the Lord.’
It’s personal. It’s individual.
He is the savior of everyone who chooses to believe.C. A Personal Lord
- Luke 2:11: Today in the city of David
was born for you, who is the Messiah, .
a) He has authority over us. He rules our heart. He is in control.
b) Colossians 1:18: He is also the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to havein everything. D. Jesus brings hope
- Luke 2.14: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favors!
II. How This Hope Was Made Possible
A. Colossians 1:19–20: For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to
everything to himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. B. Hebrews 5:8–9: Although he was the Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. After he was
, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, C. 2 Corinthians 5:21: He made the one who did not know sin
for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. D. 1 Peter 2:24: He himself
in his body on the tree; so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
III. As We Close…
A. John 1:14: The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
The theology of the incarnation of Jesus Christ is an essential Christian doctrine. Why would we ever downplay it?B. There may never be a more effective time during the year to share the story of Christ and help someone discover the joy of the gospel. See this day as an opportunity to draw all men to Jesus.
C. If you are outside of Christ … know that a Savior and Lord has come … for you. Will you come?
