What do you do when there is nothing you can do?
Worst-kept secret = you can’t
We’re all spending a lot of time and energy trying to convince the world, and ourselves, of all the things we can do. And then when it becomes glaringly obvious to us, the world, or both, that we can’t - we disintegrate, we hide, we let our discontentment drive us in all sorts of sideways and self-destructive directions…
Discontentment drives us toward all sorts of self-destructive decisions and
- I’m tired of waiting for…
- This pressure is too much so…
- I deserve to be happy…
10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this (things) through him (Christ) who gives me strength. —Philippians 4:10-13
I can’t. God can.
Secret of contentment: Christ is in me. I have everything I need.
