
HOW GOD USES SUFFERING IN OUR LIVES

Romans 5:1-5
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:1–5 (ESV)
The key word in this passage is rejoice:
1.- v. 2 – We are to rejoice in
“We rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.”
2.- v. 3 – We are to rejoice in our
“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings…”
3.- v. 11 – We are to rejoice in
“More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Stage One is
“…we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2 (ESV)
Four ways you can know when you have peace with God:
1.- You lose your
“No longer do I call you servants; but I have called you friends…” John 15:15 (ESV)
2.- You lose your fear of
14 “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. Hebrews 2:14–15 (NIV)
3.- You don’t panic when the devil suggests
11 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;” Ephesians 6:11, 16 (ESV)
4.- You have confidence before God even though you’re
1 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1–2 (ESV)
