Absent God - Message Study Questions

Message Summary

We all have faced painful moments in life. Moments that make us question God’s care for us. We wonder if God cares for us or if He is even there at all. Whatever your exact situation, you’re not the only to have wondered “Where is God?”. When we don’t see God at work in our lives, and when we go through difficult, painful times it can feel like God isn’t there. But we’re not the only ones to struggle with this. People in the bible went through difficult times too and wrestled with this same question. We can learn from their honest struggle.

Consider This

Read Psalm 42:1-11

The Psalmist is in a difficult time. He longs for God. He wants to be in the House of God singing joyful praises to God, but he feels cut off and disconnected from God. In the midst of his struggle, he has a conversation with his own soul and decides to remember who God is and how God has worked in his life. He commits to put his hope in God and trust God to still be God.

  1. What does the Psalmist long for in this psalm?

  2. Whom do you think this psalm could really help?

Moving Forward - Application

  1. When are we closest to God?

  3. Why would we find other things more desirable than God?
