Refresh Your Shema (Disciple)

As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” —Luke 11:27-28

1. Hear.

This really begs the question: How do I Shema? How do I hear?

“Ears that shema and eyes that see, the Lord has made them both.” —Proverbs 20:12

“Shema my voice, when I call O Lord, be merciful and answer me.” —Psalm 27:7

One of the key meanings of the word, “Shema,” is, “To pay attention to.”

If you want to hear God’s voice, open your Bible.

If you want to know what God has for you, open your Bible.

2. Obey.

if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession. —Exodus 19:5

APPLICATION: So it’s important that we are not only people who know the Kingdom of God but also that we are working to become disciples of the Jesus who ushers in the Kingdom of God. And, as we have said, this means we must Shema in order to be a disciple. What does that mean? It means that we need spaces where we can both HEAR and OBEY the Word of God.
