Today’s Scripture
I Samuel 27:1-2; 1 Samuel 30:1-2

1 Samuel 30:6b …But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

The epitome of the

of God is the of God.

1 Samuel 27:1 Then David said to himself, “Now I will perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than to escape into the land of the Philistines. Saul then will despair of searching for me anymore in all the territory of Israel, and I will escape from his hand.” 2 So David arose and crossed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
David is talking to himself. Was he saying good things to himself?

1 Samuel 30:1 Then it happened when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had made a raid on the Negev and on Ziklag, and had overthrown Ziklag and burned it with fire; 2 and they took captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great, without killing anyone, and carried them off and went their way. 3 When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire, and their wives and their sons and their daughters had been taken captive. 4 Then David and the people who were with him lifted their voices and wept until there was no strength in them to weep. 5 Now David’s two wives had been taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite. 6 Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5 We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

Strengthening yourself in the Lord is done through

.

When we are strengthened in the Lord we will seek Him for guidance and direction.

James 4:7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8a Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

Satan is allergic to our worship of God!

When you are in a spiritual slump, strengthen yourself in the Lord through worship, and God will give you back an even greater relationship with Him than you had before.

We don’t worship to get something from God, we worship to give something to God, our adoration and praise for who He is.

When you raise your voice in worshipful singing to God, He isn’t impressed by your vocal ability, He is blessed by your heart’s humility.

Psalm 95:1 O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord,
Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving,
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
3 For the Lord is a great God
And a great King above all gods,
6 Come, let us worship and bow down,
Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

Psalm 150 Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty expanse.
2 Praise Him for His mighty deeds;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness.
3 Praise Him with trumpet sound;
Praise Him with harp and lyre.
4 Praise Him with timbrel and dancing;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe.
5 Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 22:3 says God inhabits the praise of His people.
