I AM the True Vine
John 15:1-13
- Jesus is the True Vine. We are the branches. (Psalm 80:8-9, Jer. 2:21, Isa. 5:5-6, Gal. 5:22-23)
- Change happens in relationship with Jesus. (Gal. 2:20, Phil. 4:12-13, John 15:2, Rom. 8:28-30)
- Fruit proves our abiding. (John 15:8, Rev. 2:1-5, Amos 4:4-5, John 15:12, Matt. 5:46-47, John 15:10)
- We change by abiding in His Word, His love, and His joy. (John 15:7, 9, 13, 11)
Discussion Questions
Introductory Question. What is your most cherished childhood memory (memories) as it relates to Christmas?
1. Jesus is referred to as the True Vine. Read Psalm 80:8-9, Isaiah 5:5-6, Galatians 5:22-23. Why are we referred to as “the branches”? What is our responsibility?
2. How does change happen in relationship with Jesus? Discuss this in light of the following scriptures. Galatians 2:20, Phil. 4:12-13, and Romans 8:28-30.
3. Why would bearing fruit prove our abiding in Christ? See John 15:8, and Revelation 2:1-5. What is the commandment in John 15:12? Is it possible to follow this commandment? In Matthew 5:46 & 47, what are we asked to do?
4. Read John 15:7,9,11 & 13. How can we change? What is the benefit in abiding in God’s word? Have you experienced any of these benefits?
