INTRODUCTION
These days, if you hear the word “sanctification”, you may think more about Covid-19 and all the sanitizing that we all do on a daily basis to not spread it. However, Jesus followers use the term to talk about the inner work of transformation that God does in our lives as we trust him. In CrossFit Week Two, Pastor Cory talks about how sanctification is a cooperative venture between the individual and God.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- What does the word “sanctification” mean to you? How did this message challenge you or help clarify what it means?
- Have someone read Psalm 51:6-12 in the English Standard Version. Which parts reflect or echo your own prayers to God? What does “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit” mean to you?
- Pastor Cory talks about how sanctification happens: by spending regular time with Jesus. What does your “regular time with Jesus” look like? How have you seen it impact your life?
MOVING FORWARD
It is our time with Jesus and our time spent in the community of believers that shape our growth. We need the power of God’s grace and love everyday to “put off” the old self and “put on” the new self in Jesus. When you focus on Jesus and his love for you, it will give you the courage to face the things in your mind and heart that need to change. Don’t let discouragement overcome you. Jesus has promised that he will not leave you or forsake you as change. He will not give up on you, don’t give up on yourself.
CHANGING YOUR MIND
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; He will surely do it.
