JOHN 4:1-30

BIG IDEA: Following Jesus changes the way I myself and others.

1. Following Jesus changes the way I see

“Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in his name, He gave the right to become children of God.” —John 1:12

“…there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” —John 8:44

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” —Isaiah 43:1

2. Following Jesus changes the way we see

“When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink? (His disciples had gone into town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans). —John 4:7-9

WOMEN

“Just then the disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. —John 4:27

RACE

“The Samaritan woman, taken aback, asked, “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (Jews in those days wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Samaritans.) The Message —John 4:9

“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.” KJV —Acts 17:26

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” —Galatians 3:28

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” —John 17:20-21

Questions for reflection:

  1. How do you see yourself?
  2. Do I see others differently than God sees them?
