Big Idea: What does it mean to suffer for Christ’s sake?

1) Suffering is a gift

charizomai – Granted to you this is a favor for you, for your benefit

a. Our faith in Him

b. Our suffering for Him

2) We are called to suffer

a. Called to carry the cross Matt 16:24 Luke 14:27

b. Christians will be persecuted 2 Tim 3:12

c. You were chosen out of the world John 15:19-20

3) Consider suffering all joy

a. Who is your enemy James 1:2-3 Matt 5:11-12

b. Rejoice in your suffering Col 1:24

c. Strengthened by your suffering Rom 5:3

4) The reward far outweighs the suffering

a. Our suffering is not worthy of worry Rom 8:18, Rom 8:35

b. The Lord will deliver you Psalm 34:19

c. He has overcome the world John 16:33

d. The Lord protects you while you are suffering Isa 43:2

e. This too shall pass 2 Cor 4:17
