Habakkuk 2:12-14 Sermon notes
July 6, 2023

The center of this passage is Babylon specifically, but not ultimately. Ultimately this passages looks way into the prophets future and our too.

The central thought can be found in verse 14: “Evil will continue until the earth is filled with the knowledge of the glory of God.”

But will this ever happen? Let’s see.

  1. The description of the wicked.(12-13) The oppressors relied on slave labor, conquest for building materials, and for resources to buy material they could not confiscate.
    a. The phrase “feed the fire” means total destruction in the sense that only ashes remain.
    b. These nation’s worry themselves seeking to keep their economy going through the bloodshed and reaping the rewards of victory.
  2. The description of the coming empire. (14) This empire will not be like any empire our world has ever seen.
    a. This will be a universal kingdom. Everyone in the world be under the authority of this King.
    b. His kingdom will be preceded by the utter destruction of all nations with the guilt of the Babylonians, the Persians, the Greeks, and the Romans. Habakkuk is referring here to the coming one world order.
    c. Everyone who is alive will recognize His power as it is seen in creation around us, in the stirring history, and bringing this event to complete His purpose.
    d. The entire world will confess that He is KING, and every knee will bow before Him.
    e. Who are talking about? And when will this take place?
    1. Jesus Christ is the KING. (Phil 2:10-11)
    2. His kingdom begins at the start of the Millennial Reign (Rev 20:4-6)
    f. After 1000 years, Satan will be released one more time. Why? So that everyone who is alive physcially can make the same choice humanity has today. g. Does this affect us? Will we be part of the deceived? No. We will have glorified bodies, and we will see things just as they truly are.

At this time there will be no fear in our hearts, only faith. However we do not have to wait until then to live by faith. We can make this choice tonight.
