SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

Warm Up Question: What is the longest friendship that you have? [Today we are looking at the first chapter of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthian church, which is all about sticking with Jesus and each other for the long haul.

HEAD: These questions help us examine the Word.
1. Would anyone in the group be able to share a bit of background on the city of Corinth and Paul’s history with this church?
2. Read 1 Corinthians 1. What is Paul’s long-term vision for this church? (HINT: Verse 8)
3. In verse 2 Paul refers to these believers as saints? Why does that seem strange given the reasons Paul is writing this letter?
4. In what ways are divisiveness and personality cults still a problem in the church today?

HEART: These questions help us wrestle with what we believe.
5. Should we think of ourselves more as sinners or saints? How do you view yourself?
6. In what way is the cross still foolishness today?
7. Since you became a Christian, how has the truth of the cross (that you are a sinner in desperate need of salvation) shaped your perspective on the world?

HAND: These questions help us bring truth and beliefs into our everyday life.
8. Are there any areas in which your mindset or perspective needs to become more cross-shaped?
