If I want an unshakeable family, I must learn how to resolve conflict

.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9 NIV

How to Resolve Conflict God’s Way

1) I will be

in conflict resolution

God expects me to be a peace

, not just a peace .

Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23–24 NIV

God values peace over

.

2) I will ask God for

to resolve conflict

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. James 1:5 NLT

3) I will focus on what’s

It is seldom productive to

them and myself when seeking resolution.

Two issues I must consider:

• My own

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Aren’t they caused by the selfish desires that fight to control you? James 4:1 GW

Pride leads to conflict. Proverbs 13:10a NLT

Get here quickly: I’m sorry, I was only

!

• My own

And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? … First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye. Matthew 7:3, 5 NLT

4) I will seek to understand

Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Philippians 2:4–5 NLT

God, help me to stop looking for how far they need to go to meet

, but to see how far they have come from .

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34 NLT

5) I will speak with

to seek resolution

Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. Ephesians 4:15 NLT

• I surrender to God

I will say and I will say it.

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. Ephesians 4:29 NLT

But now also put these things out of your life: anger, bad temper, doing or saying things to hurt others, and using evil words when you talk. Colossians 3:8 NCV

6) I will focus on

more than

Reconciliation: The restoration of

.

God has done all this. He has restored our relationship with him through Christ, and has given us this ministry of restoring relationships. In other words, God was using Christ to restore his relationship with humanity. He didn’t hold people’s faults against them, and he has given us this message of restored relationships to tell others. 2 Corinthians 5:18–19 GW

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9 NIV

Memory Verse

Pride leads to conflict. Proverbs 13:10a NLT

Next Steps

I will plan a peace conference with someone this week and follow God’s plan.

I will invite someone to join me next week as we consider cooperation in our family.
