HOW TO...: Regain What Was Lost

HOW TO…

Regain What Was Lost
June 12, 2022

As long as I have my hands on whatever I find security in, it means that I’m not holding onto God for my source of power and security. The thing that I’m holding onto is a substitute for God.

I. Let’s go back to God’s original .

Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

A. Everything starts out with God as the .

Genesis 1, 6, 11, 21, 25, 27 - And God said, “Let there be light,”…day…6 And God said, “Let there be …waters …sky. land…11 Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit…21 birds…and every living and moving thing with which the water…25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. …27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

B. There is an answer for all of our needs: .

God’s role is

Genesis 2:7 - …the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Genesis 1:11 - Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.”

Genesis 2:22 - Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

God gave us breath to live by, the garden to eat from, and people to live with.

II. So what ?

Genesis 3:4-5 – “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

A. Adam and Eve believe the lie that life would be better and they would be more like God. In fact, they became like God.

Ephesians 2:1 - As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sin

Dead means: Separated from life.

Sin means: To miss the mark.

The Desire:
We are the source

The Result:
We depend on ourselves

The Desire:
We are the creator

The Result:
We exist unto ourselves

The Desire:
We have control of the world

The Result:
We try to control the world and each other, losing control of ourselves.

III. Regaining what was .

2 Corinthians 5:18 - All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ.

Isaiah 53:5 - But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Big Idea: Solving life’s problems and growing spiritually are one and the same.

A. return back to God being my source.

Matthew 6:33 - But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

B. I return God’s back to Him.

To reverse the fall means to live under submission to God.

Proverbs 3:1-7 - My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity. 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.
