At The Core pt 7 - We Are Followers Not Fans

How many of you have ever failed to apply yourself to something?

How many of you have ever failed to apply yourself to something, whether it was school, a job, a friendship, or even a marriage?

“Am I a follower of Jesus, or am I a fan?”

James 1:22-25
But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works—this person will be blessed in what he does.

22 But be doers (Followers) of the word and not hearers (Fans) only, deceiving yourselves.

23 Because if anyone is a hearer (Fan) of the word and not a doer (Follower), he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

Looking into the mirror doesn’t change you it only shows you what you need to change.

Because without transformation it’s just information.

25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer (Fan) but one who does good works (Follower)—this person will be blessed in what he does.

When we are doers of the word we are telling the world that we are valued and loved by Jesus and that we find our worth in loving and serving Him.

We are not saved by our good deeds but it does have a direct impact on the fruit of our lives.

The goal is to be a doer and not to just a hearer
