The Fall of Pride

Isaiah 39:1-8

  1. The Historical Setting
    A. Assyria was the power
    B. Marduk-Baladan was of Babylon
    • He was king of Babylon two different times
  2. The Supposed Friendly Visit (v. 1-2)
    A. The Babylon group was there to test whether Judah was a potential

    in the fight against Assyria
    B. Hezekiah shows a surprising of common sense in opening all his wealth for their inspection
    C. Our pride will often make us do some things

  3. God’s Invitation to Repent (v. 3-4)
    A. God, in His grace, gives Hezekiah an opportunity to


    B. God opens the door and invites Hezekiah to walk through to repentance and from his pride
    C. God wants us to see our own for Him willingly

  4. How God Deals with Pride (v. 5-8)
    A. Because he chose not to repent,

    is coming
    B. Even in judgement, Hezekiah focuses only on

Destruction follows pride. It is inevitable. If you continue in a prideful state, God will bring judgement. The antidote to pride is service.
