Romans 8:1-4
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
There are two categories of people – those who are IN Jesus and those who aren’t.
If you are saved, God doesn’t see a “sinner” – He sees a saint, a son, or a daughter.
Romans 8:6-9
“…to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.”
Jesus came so that you would have LIFE abundantly.
He went about doing good.
John 14:1
“Let not your hearts be troubled.”
This fallen world is full of trouble.
Many people don’t know the Father, and they don’t know Him.
Believe that God is in you and that what he said about you is true.
John 14:15-17
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.”
John 16:7
“I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you.”
John 16:22
“…you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you”
Would you rather have Jesus at your side or the Holy Spirit in your heart?
Romans 8:10-11
“…if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
Jesus came so we could have life abundantly, and He sent his Holy Spirit so we could have that promise NOW. There is POWER in the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit helps us see things that the eye can’t see and hear things that the ear can’t hear.
BEST: A Spirit-controlled mind, and a mind-controlled body
Serve one another. It’s better to give than receive. Love your neighbor as yourself. Love your enemies.
God has a plan and you’re in it because you’re IN Jesus.
John 16:8
“when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment”
John 16:13-15
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”
How to walk after the Spirit
1. He’s a person. Let Him be your new best friend.
You’re never alone. (Psalm 139:7)
He’s your prayer partner. (Romans 8:26)
2. Let Him be your helper (John 14, 16)
3. Let him be your teacher
He will keep your path straight. (John 16:13)
He will teach you the deep things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10)
Galatians 5:22-2
“the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control”
You will bear good fruit.
4. Let Him be your worship leader (Romans 6:13, 12:1)
If you settle WHO you are going to worship, all the other big issues in your life will be settled.
Romans 8:35,37-39
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
