Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. —Proverbs 3:5-6

God wants to know: Do I have your ‘unconditional yes’?

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. —Hebrews 11:8

Are you almost or all-in with God? (Genesis 11:31-32; Genesis 12:1-5)

The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” 4 So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. —Genesis 12:1-5

God wants to know…

1) Do I have your ‘yes’ when you don’t have all the answers? (Hebrews 11:8)

  • God calls Abraham out of certainty.

2) Do I have your ‘yes’ when things get difficult? (Genesis 12:1)

  • God calls Abraham out of comfort.

3) Do I have your ‘yes’ when it looks impossible? (Romans 4:18-21)

  • God calls Abraham out of his ability.

In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, “SO SHALL YOUR DESCENDANTS BE.” 19 Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah’s womb; 20 yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform. —Romans 4:18-21 NASB

When you don’t understand the ‘how’, trust the ‘Who’.

When you give God your ‘yes’, the Father is doing the heavy lifting, but you get to participate with Him.

Let’s Talk About It

To reach your desired destination, you have to keep going until you get there. Don’t stop short or settle. Abraham trusted God and kept going even when the situation seemed impossible. He gave God his unconditional ‘yes’. You can glean from Abraham’s faith and say ‘yes’ to God even when you don’t have all the answers, when things get difficult, and when it looks impossible. When you don’t understand ‘how’, trust ‘Who’.

Proverbs 3:5-6; Hebrews 11:8; Genesis 11:31-32, 12:1-4; Romans 4:18-21

  • Which part of the message impacted or challenged you?

  • Read Hebrews 11:8. Where are you seeking to know God’s will, so you can pray and act in faith? How can God’s Word, God’s Spirit, God’s people, and God’s circumstances help you discover God’s will in this area of your life?

  • Read Genesis 12:1-4. Discuss how Abraham received God’s promise by trusting God and stepping out when he didn’t have all the answers, things were difficult, and the situation seemed impossible. How does Abraham’s “all-in” posture build your faith to give God your ‘unconditional yes’ regardless of what He’s leading you to do?

  • Romans 4:18-21. What do you typically do when God’s will seems impossible or the fulfillment of His promise takes too long? Is it hard to imagine what God might do if you gave Him your ‘unconditional yes’ and went all-in with Him? Why or why not?

  • Have you gone all-in with God? Where is He asking you to give your unconditional ‘yes’? What is He asking you to do that is uncertain, uncomfortable, or beyond your ability? What step of faith will you take today to say ‘yes’ to what God is asking you to do?

Here’s My Prayer

  • Lord Jesus, I give You my unconditional ‘yes’ – when I don’t have all the answers, when things are difficult, and when it seems impossible. I choose to trust You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
