Matthew 20:17-19 - The Power of Third Person Thinking
* Jesus was about to go through the worst hardship any human would ever face.
* At the same time, He had a group of disciples He was responsible to lead.
* So what would He do to prepare Himself for the trial of a lifetime?
* Two things:
* 1) He brought others into His

(vs 17) - He didn’t keep things to Himself.
* Holding onto things adds to our load.
* Galatians 6:2 - “Bear your burdens one with another…”
* It’s not just a benefit to you, but to you bring into the situation.
* 2) He thought in third person (vs 18-19) - He moved from thinking to .
* This had two effects:
* It changed his - He became a simple player in a bigger story.
* It His disciples the Scriptures that predicted this would happen (Isaiah, Zechariah, David).
* You can use person when it comes to trials and temptations.
* Satan cannot overtake someone who who they are.

Matthew 20:20-26 - Desiring Greatness
* Jesus prophesied greatness over His disciples.
* Now a few of them really wanted it (James and John).
* Jesus redefined what greatness looked like.
* The secret to being great?

* The secret to being first! !
* The secret to wearing a crown? !
* The secret to increase? !
* We need to want to be great as defines it!
* Jeremiah 45:5 - “…don’t seek great THINGS for yourself…”
* Seeking greatness is different than seeking great things.
* Man in the Arena - Theadore Roosevelt:
* “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
