2 Peter 1:16
For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

  • Should We Put a Prophetic Word “On the Shelf” or Pay Attention To It?

    • Peter lays the groundwork for recognizing the authenticity of a prophetic word by first Recognizing the Place of that word has been given.

3 Steps to Safely Handle A Prophetic Word Without Fear of Error.

  • 1) Recognize the Level of Authority of a Prophetic Word

    • A) An prophetic word (v.19)

    • B) A more fully prophetic word (v.19)

    • C) A Prophecy of (v.20)

    • D) A scriptural prophecy fulfilled in

      (v.16-18, 19)

      • The we give to a potential prophetic word should be determined by its’ level of authority, and confirmation.
      • When you receive a prophetic word, the first question you need to ask is where does it fall on the spectrum of authority?

        • Is it Unconfirmed?
(Little or No Authority & Attention)

        • Is it Confirmed?
(Increased Potential for Authority & Attention)

        • Is it a prophecy of Scripture?
(Full Authority and Attention with Right Interpretation)

        • & If it is, is my interpretation of it pointing me to Jesus or somewhere else?
          (Full Authority and Attention)

  • 2) Seek the Lord For Confirmation

    • What is “Confirmation”?
      • Confirmed in Greek is βέβαιος;(Bebaios) - stable, firm, of force, stedfast, sure, trustworthy
      • The root word of βέβαιος is βάσις(Basis) - a pace (“base, as in a consistent pattern of footsteps), or by implication the foot, a stepping, walking, that with which one takes steps

  • 3) Test Every Prophetic Word

    • 1 John 4:1
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
      • Any time you hear a prophetic word, always bring it to the Lord and Let Him direct you and “walk you through” confirming it, because ultimately it’s Jesus who is the and of every real prophetic word, not a person.
