01.22 Sermon Notes

Mark 1:1
This is the gospel (good news) about Jesus Christ the Son of God.

Mark 1:9-11
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.  And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.  And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Hebrews 4:14-16
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.  For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Mark 1:14-15
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

Mark 1:21-22
And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching. And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.

Mark 1:40-41
And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, “I will; be clean.”

Jesus…
1) …is our King (vv. 1-8).
…is our High Priest (vv. 9-13).
2) …as King, he teaches and ministers in authority (vv. 21-34).
3) …as Priest, is moved with compassion for the outcast, sick, and suffering (vv. 40-45)
4) …is always willing to meet the needs of those around Him (v. 41).

Two Questions:
1) Do you believe in Jesus? Is He both King and Priest of your life?
2) Where do you need healing, and where can you be an instrument of healing?
