Sermon Notes

The Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16; 23)

• The Day of

is known as Yom Kippur.

• It was known as the most solemn of the holy days where the

would perform elaborate rituals to atone for the sins of the people a year.

• The high priest was to be

• The washing ceremonies were a symbol of the

that needed to happen for each one of us, Jesus fulfilled that for us.

• Christ’s sacrifice was

for the sins of all who would believe in Him.

• The two goats were no longer needed. Have you accepted Christ’s atonement?

Discussion

• When have you tried in futility to atone for a mistake?

• How would you define “atonement” from a Biblical perspective?

• What did atonement look like in Old Testament days?

• Read and discuss Hebrews 10:1-10.

• How did Jesus fulfill these things, and what does atonement look like for us now? • On a scale of 1-10, how important is living with this in mind and telling others?
