He Comes Luke 1:8-33

Introduction: Have you ever heard God speak? That’s what we’re talking about today, if you open your Bibles to Luke 1. We will explore today how God speaks to people and expects a response. It’s advent, and God is talking to you looking for an answer.

Three actions God takes to rescue people:

HE SPEAKS (LUKE 1:8-15 NLT).

HE SENDS (LUKE 1:16-20)

16 And he will turn many Israelites to the Lord their God. 17 He will be a man with the spirit and power of Elijah. He will prepare the people for the coming of the Lord. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and he will cause those who are rebellious to accept the wisdom of the godly.”

What do you know about the Christmas movie with no laugh track? The voice-overs were amateurish and it included a simple reading of the King James Bible.

The only person involved who wasn’t surprised was the author. He was plagued by depression and self-doubt his entire life, but he always had confidence in his characters and their stories. He believed everyone knew what it felt like to fail despite doing everything right.

HE SAVES (LUKE 1:26-33, 67-69)

67 Then his father, Zechariah, was filled with the Holy Spirit and gave this prophecy:

68 “Praise the Lord, the God of Israel,

because he has visited and redeemed his people.

69 He has sent us a mighty Savior

from the royal line of his servant David,

76 “And you, my little son,

will be called the prophet of the Most High,

because you will prepare the way for the Lord.

77 You will tell his people how to find

through of their sins.
