21 Days of Prayer and Fasting

Day 3 | January 4th

For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: —Romans 3:20-22

In Exodus, on the top of Mount Sinai God gave the ten command ments, the law, to Moses and to the Israelities. There are many who think that if they can just keep “most” of the law, that that will justify them in God’s sight. However, the law was never intended to puff us up, it was intended to show us our sinfulness and our deep need for a Savior. A Savior that God had already promised back in Genesis He would provide. He gave His people, and us, the law out of His great love for us. He fulfilled the law to the fullest through His Son, Jesus Christ. He did for us what we could not do ourselves. Through Jesus, God removed the guilt of sin which the law, nor any other could remove.

Application:
The same God who gave us the Law then, is the same God we serve today. Ask God to reveal to you His purpose for His Law today. Confess any sin. Don’t fall into the trap of performing for God to earn His favor. Allow your faith in God’s promises lead you to obey Him.
