Our lives are filled with uncertainty. Hopelessness, despair, fear, and anxiety strike the hearts of human beings when we lose the grounding rod of hope.

• In John 14, Jesus is coming to the end of His three year ministry and headed towards the Cross. He is preparing the disciples for His departure. They have

Him for three years and now He is saying that He is leaving. They want to go with Him (John 14:1-5)
• Today, we will learn that the normal Christian life begins with Christ at the center.

How can they follow when He is not there?

• They want to follow their Master, but He tells them they are not meant to come

. He is going to prepare a place for them, but there is a reason that He must go and they must stay.
• The first hope-creating, life-giving promise that Jesus gives them is a declaration of the about Him. He is the way, the truth and the life.
• As we grow in our of Jesus’ person and nature, we will experience the stabilizing hope that only He can bring.

We want to see the of the Father

• Phillip now asks, “If you are going to the Father, then show us so that we will have

. That will be good enough.”
• Jesus responds in John 14:9-11 >> “Phillip, you will see the glory of the Father as you believe that I am who you say that I am. And when you it me, you will like me. The rest of your life exists so that the world can see me through you.
• So, the Spirit brings a Christ-centered hope. The Spirit makes us more like Jesus. And one more…

Get ready to

• Look at John 14:12-14 >> As you set your eyes on Christ as the way, the truth, and the life (prophet, priest, and king) and as you set your sights in becoming more and more like Him, then God says, “Whatever you need to

me, whatever you need to advance my kingdom, then ask for it.”
• But if Jesus is going to Heaven, then how will I have to Him. How can I follow someone who is not with me? It’s be promised! How will the promise be fulfilled?
• The Holy Spirit is the way, which we will see next week.

Conclusion

• Life in the Spirit puts Christ at the

so much that we want to follow Him in complete surrender.
• Life in the Spirit means that the and nature of the Son become more of who I am as life goes on.
• Life in the Spirit means that we have access to whatever we need to build God’s .
