MIRACLES ARE MESSY

THE MIRACLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE MESSINESS OF OUR UNDERSTANDING

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.
The words that I speak to you are SPIRIT, and they are life. —John 6:63

From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. —John 6:66

67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” —John 6:67 - 68

The Word of God should never be adjusted to you. You must be the one that adjusts!

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. —Romans 8:12

Baptism of Salvation – We are baptized (immersed) spiritually into Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection
Baptism of Water – Disciples baptize (immerse) other disciples physically in water (representing Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection)
Baptism of the Holy Spirit – Jesus baptizes (immerses) disciples into His Spirit

Baptism of Salvation

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. —Romans 6:1 - 4

For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. —1 Corinthians 12:13

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. —Galatians 3:27

Baptism of Water

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit —Matthew 28:19

But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. —Acts 8:12

“Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” —Acts 10:47

Baptism of the Holy Spirit

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. —Matthew 3:11

For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. —Acts 1:5

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. —Acts 1:8

And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. —John 20:22

for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. —Acts 1:5

1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. —Acts 2:1 - 4

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ 17 If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?” —Acts 11:15 - 17

Holy Spirit is IN us by His covenant. He is UPON us by our yielding.

And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.” —John 1:32

What Jesus was to the disciples, the Holy Spirit is to the entire church!

1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.” 4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. —Acts 19:1 - 6

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit. —Ephesians 5:18

The question isn’t “Do you have the Holy Spirit?

The question is “Does the Holy Spirit have YOU?”
