Mindset Of Thankfulness
By: Ray Parascando
Philippians 4:6-7 / CSB, “Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
1. Think about being thankful for
Philippians 1:3-11 / CSB, “I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you, 4 always praying with joy for all of you in my every prayer, 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. 6 I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. 7 Indeed, it is right for me to think this way about all of you, because I have you in my heart, and you are all partners with me in grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. 8 For God is my witness, how deeply I miss all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. 9 And I pray this: that your love will keep on growing in knowledge and every kind of discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are superior and may be pure and blameless in the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ to the glory and praise of God.”
Enter His gates with gratitude: Psalm 100:4 / CSB, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name.”
Evaluate my attitude: Philippians 2:14/ CSB, “Do everything without grumbling and arguing.”
Express the magnitude of my appreciation: First, Thessalonians 1:2 / CSB, “We always thank God for all of you, making mention of you constantly in our prayers.”
“Grumbling and gratitude are, for the child of God, in conflict. Be grateful, and you won’t grumble. Grumble, and you won’t be grateful.” — Billy Graham
2 Think about being thankful when facing
Philippians 1:12-14 / CSB, “Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually advanced the gospel, 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is because I am in Christ. 14 Most of the brothers have gained confidence in the Lord from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the word fearlessly.”
*“Gratitude exclaims, very properly, ‘How good of God to give me this.”
— CS Lewis
“It’s impossible to be angry and resentful and grateful and thankful at the same time.” — David Jeremiah*
First, Thessalonians 5:18 / ESV, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
