Family Culture Part 3

Our homes should be a safe place for us, but sometimes it feels far from it. When a house doesn’t feel like a home, it’s hard to find peace and rest. The happiness our family shares is only limited by us. God has given us the authority to shape our family’s culture, and it starts by leaning into Him.

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones. —Psalm 127:1-5

Regardless of where we live, a house can feel like a home. It’s not just the roof over our head, the size of the rooms, or the personal items scattered about. A house should help us connect to God and to others; yet so many times, we invite things into our home that threaten the very foundation we’ve built. We must protect our homes from attack by allowing God to help us design them.

God has a purpose for our families. He wants us to live in unity and peace. His purpose for our life is that we live abundantly, and that begins by building our family culture around Him.

A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables. —Proverbs 24:3-4

Maybe your house is full unrest at this moment, or maybe it’s been brewing under the surface for awhile. Leaving it there to fester is only going to make things worse.

It’s time we reclaim the ground that God has blessed. Our homes are Holy Ground. We must stand firm on God’s promises and rebuke the enemy in Jesus’ name. He cannot destroy what God protects. He cannot have our families.

Journal: What has God revealed to you through the Family Culture message series?

Activation: Go to each room of your house and ask God if there is anything in this room that needs to be added or taken away to help you and your family better connect with Him and each other.

Respond: What is one activity you can do this week with your spouse or family to help you grow closer to each other and to God?

Prayer:

God, Thank You for the family You have given me. I know they are not perfect, but neither am I. Thank You for Your infinite grace as we navigate this life together.

I pray that You would put a hedge of protection around our home. Keep those things which might harm us and our family culture from finding its way in. Make our home a safe haven of peace, comfort, and rest.

Reveal to us Your purpose for our lives and anything that needs to be added or removed. I trust in Your perfect design for our family. I welcome Your continued presence in our home. I praise You for all that You do. I love you. Amen
