SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER

THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY OF SECURITY

1) To

people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

  • The doctrine of eternal security is just a small part of the doctrine of salvation.

2) To equip people with a Biblical understanding which will give assurance.
3) To

people in acquiring a positive attitude about where they stand with God.

1. God’s Word Declares Security

1) John 10:28-29

  • The believer has eternal .
  • The believer shall never perish.
  • The believer is in the hand of Christ.
  • The cannot be plucked out of the hand of Christ.
  • The believer is in the hand of the Father.
  • The believer cannot be plucked out of the Father’s hand.
  • The Father is than all.

2) Ephesians 4:30 - The believer is sealed for a time.

3) 1 John 5:13 - The believer can know he has eternal life.

4) John 3:16 -The believer cannot perish. The believer has everlasting life.

  • The believer has life.
  • The believer has been passed from death unto life. (past tense)
  • The believer shall not come into .

6) John 6:37 The believer will in no wise be .

7) Romans 8:35-39

  • The believer is more than a conqueror through Christ.
  • Nothing can separate the believer from Christ.

8) Philippians 1:6 - Christ will complete our salvation until the end.

9) Hebrews 7:25 – Jesus saves to the uttermost, not just from the uttermost.

  • The believer’s inheritance is .
  • The believer’s inheritance cannot be defiled
  • The believer is kept by the power of God.
  • The believer is kept through faith.
  • The believer is to be in the last time.

2. Justification By Faith Declares Security (Rom. 5:1-11)

  • Six links in the unbreakable chain of security

1) The Believer’s With God (v. 1)

  • The therefore ties what Paul has just said to what he is about to say. (Chapters 3 & 4 with Chapter 5)
  • The peace that a believer has with God is the result of being justified by faith.
  • This peace is not subjective. It is objective. It is not a feeling but a fact.
  • We as believers are at peace with God, not because we feel peaceful, but because we are AT PEACE!

2) The Believer’s Standing In Grace (v. 2a)

  • The word “we stand’ carries the idea of , standing firm and immovable.
  • We are not saved by God’s grace and then preserved by human effort. That would be a mockery of God’s grace, meaning that what God begins in us He is either unwilling or unable to preserve or complete.

3) The Believer’s Of Glory (v. 2b)

  • Paul has stated our salvation is anchored in the past – because we are at peace with God. (v. 1)
  • It is anchored in the present because we stand in grace.
  • It is anchored in the future because God has given His children the unchangeable promise that one day they will be clothed with the glory of God. (cf. Rom. 8:29-30)

4) The Believer’s Possession Of Divine Love (vv. 5-8)

  • We possess God’s love in our hearts, and it is there because God’s is in our hearts.
  • If God loves us so much that He gave His Son for us to save us, then how much more does God love us now that we are His children.
  • The possession of God’s Love in our hearts secures us objectively, and it assures us subjectively.
  • We love God because He first loved us.

5) The Believer’s Certainty Of (vv. 9-10)

  • Could it be stated any more simply?
  • If His death reconciled us when we were His enemies, then His life will not fail to save us from God’s wrath.

6) The Believer’s Joy In God (v. 11)

  • Why do we joy in God? Because from Him we have the atonement, or reconciliation.
