Day 73 - Receiving and Giving

Austin Green

God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God Himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to Him forever and ever! Amen.” - 1 Peter 4:10-11 NLT

Every gift God has given is unique and important. There’s no gift that’s more important than the other.

The gifts God has given you shows you who you are. Unless you go to the One who made you, you’ll never truly understand yourself.

One of my favorite holidays growing up was Christmas. I anxiously waited to wake up on December 25 every year to find my presents under the tree and to unwrap them to see what I got. I’ve received a lot of really great gifts throughout my lifetime! As I’ve gotten older, though, I have become even more excited about giving gifts to others. There’s something about watching someone open a gift that you put thought into getting them and the smile and surprise on their face when they unwrap it.

The reality is that God has given each of us gifts, but they’re not for us; they’re for others! Our spiritual gifts are God’s supernatural empowerment in our lives to advance His Kingdom.

One of the most exciting parts of my spiritual journey was learning my spiritual gifts. In this passage of Scripture, Peter encourages the church to discover their gifts and use them to bring glory to God.

Next Steps

  • Think about it: Are you using your spiritual gifts?

  • Think about it: How can you use your gifts to serve and make an eternal difference in the lives of others?

  • Action Step: Identify what spiritual gifts are in action when you’re at work, home, school, etc. This will help you see how you use your spiritual gifts in different parts of your life!
