Everyday Jesus: Everyday Jesus is a great way to deepen your Bible reading, prayer life & personal time with Christ.
• Monday: Read 1 Kings 22:1-28 Ahab repented for his previous disobedience to the Lord. Yet, 3 years later he continues (starts a war, aligns loyalists, refuses God’s council) to show a hardness of heart to hearing and receiving the word of the Lord. As you read of Ahab’s unwillingness to seek the Lord, ask the Lord to soften and continually keep your heart tender toward the plan and direction of the Lord.
• Tuesday: Read John 9-10. In I Kings 22 we see how a self-centered King, and even God’s prophets operate from a “me up” perspective instead of a “God from above” perspective. Even with the kings authority & access to God, they still don’t know what to do. In Jn 10, Christ “the good shepherd” explains that those that follow Christ, know His voice and follow Him. Follow the dialogue of John 9-10 and let it lead you into prayer for your need to hear God’s voice - continually & clearly.
• Wednesday: {Day of Fasting} Read 1 Kings 22:1-28 Micaiah serves God’s purpose and separates himself from the 400 prophets loyal to Ahab by committing to only speak what the Lord tells him. Today meditate on Micaiah’s faithfulness to the Lord in vv14-28 (See Sermon Notes). In your prayer time, discuss with the Lord what qualities of Micaiah do you desire to increase/strengthen in you.
• Thursday: Read 1 Kings 22:19-23, According to Micaiah the Lord sends a lying spirit to the 400 prophets to entice Ahab. A difficult but insightful passage that shows she sovereignty of God. The truth of the passage also underscores our need in prayer today, to check our motives & loyalties, may they only be to God and not to ourselves or corruption of this world.
• Friday: Read 1 Kings 22:23-28. I Peter 2:21-25. Zedekiah took exception to Micaiah’s claim that he and the other prophets were lying. Ahab had Micaiah put in prison with little food. Yet, despite Micaiah being struck and confronted by Zedekiah & imprisoned by Ahab he didn’t fight but stood on God’s word, to Him. Today, pray for a trust in the Lord that looks above people and trusts the Lord
• Saturday: Read 1:24-28 By determining how long Micaiah would stay in prison Ahab was continuing to resist the Lord’s authority. But Micaiah’s final words were “Hear all you peoples”. Through his faith he was becoming an example of how to hear from the Lord. What God speaks will come to pass. Today ask the Lord to continually give you the strength to wait on the Lord.
