The Existence of God
Big Question: How can you believe in God when you can’t prove He exists?
There are two things that lead men to believe in God: the existence of the soul, and the order of the motion of the stars. —Plato
The argument of universal morality and the argument of the universe.
How can you believe in God when you can’t prove He exists?
1.) Because of universal morality
“For evolutionary purposes, hostility to all people outside one’s group should be widely considered moral and right behavior. Yet, today we believe that sacrificing time, money, emotion, and even life — especially for someone ‘not of our kind’ or tribe is — right.” —Timothy Keller (The Reason for God)
Both sexes ought to refrain from marriage if they are in any marked degree inferior in body and mind. —Charles Darwin
How can you believe in God when you can’t prove He exists?
1.) Because of universal morality
2.) Because of the universe
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. —Genesis 1:1
The Big Bang cries out for a divine explanation. It forces the conclusion that nature had a defined beginning. I cannot see how nature could have created itself. Only a supernatural force that is outside of time and space could have done that. —Francis Collins
The odds against a universe like ours emerging out of something like the Big Bang are enormous. I think there are religious implications. —Stephen Hawking
1 in 10 to the 138th power. To put that into context, 10 to the 70th power is the number of atoms in the entire universe.
There are so many wonderful details which, if they were changed only slightly, would make it impossible for us to be here. One has to feel, somehow, that there is a design in the universe and, therefore, a designer to have worked it out so magnificently. —Owen Gingerich
They (humanity) know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.—Romans 1:19-20
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. —Hebrews 11:6
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. —John 3:16-17
