Message Notes:

Colossians 2:6-7
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. NLT

Main Idea:

The purpose of deeper vision is not for God to see what we want done…

but for us to see what He is already doing.

CHAPTER 1 – Habakkuk is in despair.

Habakkuk’s Complaint

Habakkuk 1:2-5
How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen! “Violence is everywhere!” I cry, but you do not come to save. 3b Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. 4 The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The Lord’s Reply 5 The Lord replied, “Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! [a] For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it. NLT

CHAPTER 2 - Habakkuk starts to feel better and has a greater desire to see clearly.

Habakkuk 2:1-3
1 I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he[a] will answer my complaint. The Lord’s Second Reply 2 Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. 3 This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed. NLT

CHAPTER 3 – Habakkuk seems to really come to a place of vision and trust in God.

Habakkuk’s Prayer

Habakkuk 3:1-19
I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by…3 I see God moving across the deserts from Edom, (representing their path from Egypt) the Holy One coming from Mount Paran. (representing where they first received the promise of 10 commandments) 4 His coming is as brilliant as the sunrise. Rays of light flash from his hands, where his awesome power is hidden…VS. 17 Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! 19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer,[f] able to tread upon the heights. NLT

Jeremiah 33:3
‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ NIV
