Sermon Title: Only Murderers Need to Listen
Scripture: Exodus 20:13
I want to explore this commandment by asking 3 simple questions:
Why are we given this command?
What does it actually mean?
How are we to go about keeping it?
I. Why are we given this commandment?
“Human babies are not born self-aware, or capable of grasping that they exist over time. They are not ‘persons’; therefore, the life of a newborn is of less value than the life of a pig, a dog, or a chimpanzee.” Peter Singer, Practical Ethics
II. What does it actually mean today?
Murder itself. That’s simply taking the life of your neighbor.
Abortion. This is taking the life of your unborn neighbor.
- Euthenasia. This is taking the life of an elderly or infirmed neighbor.
- Suicide. The 6th command includes the taking of your own life.
III. How are we to obey the 6th commandment?
- Embrace your life and live it to the fullest
- Pursue peace in every way possible
Additional Notes:
Exodus 20:13
