Endurance

Ken Ham, the inspiration behind a modern-day Noah’s Ark built in northern Kentucky is much like his biblical hero. Overcoming endless red tape and a $102 million price tag, the Ark Encounter theme park opened on July 7, 2016. Like the biblical ark, it’s 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high. When touring the ark, guests are constantly reminded of the “ark” God has provided for today – Jesus Christ!

Much of Ken Ham’s opposition came from fellow Christians who insist the earth has to be billions of years old. The Answers In Genesis team of scientists stand ready to show you how the biblical and scientific evidence point to a young earth of approximately 6000 years in age.

Noah’s Endurance Is Revealed in Three Ways:

By

to God’s Word.

“By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family.” —Hebrews 11:7a

The pre-flood world was much different than today. Noah had never seen anything like what God said was coming.

Noah likely had many doubts. Satan loves to trip us up with doubts. His first words to Eve were “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat of any tree in the Garden’”? (Genesis 3:1)

Lee Strobel examined eight of the toughest objections to Christianity in The Case for Faith. Though still troubled by the existence of suffering and the doctrine of hell, Strobel has chosen to accept God’s Word by faith. Putting his doubts aside, Noah invested 120 years of his life exactly fulfilling all of God’s commands to build a massive ark.

By

the World.

“By his faith he condemned the world.” —Hebrews 11:7b

Besides building the ark, Noah also preached (II Peter 2:5). No one listened other than his family. Hard jobs are easier to deal with than hard people!

Intense human wickedness may have been fostered by demon-possession originating from embodied fallen angels impregnating human women (Genesis 6:1-4). Today we need to be wary of genetic engineering involving humans. God encodes our genes and DNA (Colossians 1:16; John 1:3). We must not usurp God who “created man in his own image” Genesis 1:27.

“As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.” —Matthew 24:37

Like Noah, we must make a complete break with the world we are living in. No compromise with evil. No negotiation. No appeasement.

Today there is still room aboard the ark of Jesus Christ. Jesus is holding out his arms to a lost world, saying

“Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy-hearted, and I will give you rest.” —Matthew 11:28

By

God’s Righteousness.

“By faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.” —Hebrews 11:7b

Noah was declared right in the eyes of God by faith. He demonstrated he was right with God by his works.

If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? Every believer in Hebrews 11 had ample evidence to demonstrate their faith. Yet they all had their faults, just like us. Is there sufficient proof to show that you are a follower of Christ?

On January 1, 2019, an international expedition set out to find the Endurance and failed to do so. The Endurance was trapped in ice and sunk off the coast of Antarctica in 1915. Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew of 27 took refuge on nearby Elephant Island.

Threatened with starvation, Shackleton and five of his men risked an 800-mile voyage in a 23-foot boat through monstrous gales and blinding blizzards. When they arrived at South Georgia Island, they endured a harrowing hike over mountains to reach a remote whaling station where they received help. It took a full 17 months, but Shackleton brought all 27 crew members safely back to England!

Are you willing to follow Christ even if you should face improbable odds and overwhelming opposition? Like Noah, will you endure no matter the cost?
