SERIES INTRODUCTION:
Many of us walk around with wounds virtually unseen (i.e. emotional wounds, spiritual wounds, mental wounds, etc.) and have no idea how to bring them to a point of healing. Unlike phyiscal wounds in that if you get a cut, a couple of days and band-aid doesn’t do the job. Healing on these levels are a process. Our prayer is this series serves to be a blessing to your life in immeasurable ways!

PSALM 34:18 NLT
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

SELF HURT is very real and has potential to create damage on catastrophic levels - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

Self-hurt is often an echoed-hurt, originally caused by others in our lives. Psychology will tell you one of the main reasons a person insults themself is because that insult was first given to us by someone else.

According to research done by Dove Beauty Brand, 88% of women beleive they are categorically ‘ugly’.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among teenagers.

Don’t take community out of CONTEXT

Don’t allow people to stand in a place of influence only God was intended to stand in when it comes to determining the value, worth and identity of your life. WHO you are is determined by WHOSE you are.

GENESIS 1:26 ESV
“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.”

GENESIS 3:1-11 NIV
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” 4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” 10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” 11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked?

JOHN 10:10 NIV
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

SELF-IDENTITY should never be found or formed in the opinions of people.

1 SAMUEL 30:6 KJV
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

The last 8 words in this verse display (3) incredible keys in healing from self-hurt.

  1. ‘David encouraged himself…’

2 CORINTHIANS 10:5 NIV
…and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2. ‘In the Lord…’

PSALM 91:1-2 NIV
Whoever dwells IN the shelter of the Most High will rest IN the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, IN whom I trust.”

PSALM 103:1-2 NKJV
Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me,  bless His holy name! 2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits.

3. ‘His God.’

When God becomes personal to you, He becomes powerful in you.

ZEPHANIAH 3:17 ESV
The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
