Introduction:

God wants you to thrive. But many of us are just trying to survive. Maybe you feel the same way. However, God wants you to be revived and thriving. You do this by looking for opportunities to improve and maximize your life in the areas of health and wellness. Do you need a reset, a fresh start in the areas of physical, spiritual, and emotional health?

“Dear friend, I pray that you are prospering in every way and are in good health, just as your whole life is going well.” —3 John 2

You may not feel like you are thriving right now because you have not been taking care of yourself. This season of life may have you feeling defeated, lost, and not knowing where to start in moving from surviving to thriving.

In this seven-week collection of talks, you are going to explore six A.C.T.I.O.N. steps toward thriving again in your health and wellness.

THRIVE WEEK #2: Awareness: What Needs to Change?

I. yourself on health and wellness

A. The Bible is the greatest

book.

The word “body” or “bodies” is in the KJV Bible 179 times. Sometimes it talks about the physical body and sometimes it talks about the corporate body. Both matter to God.

“His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” —2 Peter 1:3

B. Read other respected

and health sources.

II. God’s perspective of you

“For everything was created by him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things have been created through him and for him.” —Colossians 1:16

A. You were custom-made

God.

“So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female.” —Genesis 1:27

“For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made. Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well. 15 My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret, when I was formed in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw me when I was formless; all my days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began. 17 God, how precious your thoughts are to me; how vast their sum is!” —Psalm 139:13-17

B. You were custom-made

God.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” —1 Peter 2:9

III. your current physical condition

A. Know where you are

B. Know where you need to

IV. steps toward getting and staying physically healthy

A. Eat for your

, not your

“For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with streams, springs, and deep-water sources, flowing in both valleys and hills;” —Deuteronomy 8:7

“God also said, “Look, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the surface of the entire earth and every tree whose fruit contains seed. This will be food for you,” —Genesis 1:29

Decide to stop choosing foods that are killing you.

B.

more, so you can more

“The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it.” —Genesis 2:15

Decide to adopt a new lifestyle, not a weight-loss plan.

“If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” —1 Corinthians 3:17 (ESV)

CONCLUSION: What needs to change in your health and life?

DEEP DIVE QUESTIONS:

  1. What was Paul’s intent in writing the letter of I Corinthians? Who was his audience?

  2. Read 2 Peter 1:3. How is the Bible our greatest source of information for living?

  3. Read Colossians 1:16. How does this verse give us comfort? How does this verse speak to ownership over our lives?

  4. What small steps in the area of food choices do you need to take today? What small steps in the area of exercise do you need to take today?
