The last “I Am” statement of Jesus is recorded in the book of Revelation where Jesus says, “I am the beginning and the end.”
In 2008, a book came out called “Not Quite What I Had Planned - 6-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous & Obscure”. If you had to sum up your life in 6 words, what would it be?
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” —Revelations 22:13 (NLT)
Jesus is the beginning of all things.
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. —Colossians 1:17 (NIV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. —John 1:1-2 (NIV)
What are these two passages telling us about Jesus?
What does it mean for Jesus to be the beginning of all things?
Jesus is the end of all things.
He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! 21 May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s holy people. —Revelation 22:20-21 (NLT)
What does this passage tell us about Jesus?
What does it mean for Jesus to be the end of all things?
Jesus is my beginning.
For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. —Romans 6:4 (NLT)
What does it mean to have “new life” in Christ?
Jesus is my end.
Hebrews 12:2 says we should be “looking unto Jesus, the pioneer and finisher of our faith.”
Philippians 1:6 (NLT): And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
What Jesus starts, he finishes. What does that mean for our lives?
Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. —Ephesians 5:25b-27 (NIV)
Christ desires perfection in us… and he is working toward that end.
How will you let Christ work in you this week?
