Your Greatest Joy is Someone Else’s Joy
We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete. Our motive for writing is simply this: We want you to enjoy this, too. Your joy will double our joy! —1 John 1:3-4
For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? 20 Indeed, you are our glory and joy. —1 Thessalonians 2:19-20
For the joy set before him, Jesus endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. —Hebrews 12:2
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” —Acts 1:8
“Therefore, let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. —Acts 2:36-41
Reasons We Don’t Share Boldly
1. I’m Afraid
2. I’m not Capable
3. I Don’t Care
4. I Give In
5. I Don’t Need To
I Can’t
You Can
You Will
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. 8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. 9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. —2 Timothy 1:7-10
I’m Afraid > Holy Spirit Gives You Courage
I’m Not Capable > Holy Spirit Gives You Power
I Don’t Care > Holy Spirit Gives You Love
I Give In > Holy Spirit Gives You Self-Discipline
I Don’t Need to > Holy Spirit Sanctifies Us
For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. —2 Corinthians 5:14-15; 19-20
How Will We Share Boldly?
1. Own It
2. Will It
3. Ask for It
for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. —Philippians 1:19-20
Pray in the Spirit on all occasions…Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly/boldly make known the mystery of the gospel, —Ephesians 6:18-19
