Chosen Part 1 - Next Steps

Message Summary
Do you remember playing team games in your neighborhood growing up? Think back to when “team captains” stood before you and one of them said your name. The joy and elation of knowing that you were selected was very real. You were chosen. As a follower of Jesus, you are God’s chosen agent to bring the hope and life change found in Christ to others in this world. You are chosen to make a Kingdom first impact with the resources you are given. This week, we were reminded, once again, that we are chosen to be Kingdom difference makers and how we can make a difference in the lives of kids around the globe.

• Describe a time when you were chosen (i.e. for friendship, for a sports team, for a solo, to receive a unique reward or opportunity). When you were selected, how did it make you feel?

• Why do you think that, for the most part, being chosen for something has a positive effect on us?

Read 1 Samuel 16:1-13

1) What had God commanded Samuel to do? Why do you think he was hesitant to follow?

2) When Samuel arrived in Bethlehem, what was his reaction?

3) Why did the Lord not choose the older sons of Jesse?

4) When Samuel saw David, what did he do?

5) What is unique about how the Lord chose David?

6) God doesn’t choose us because of our status, appearance, or popularity. How does clinging to this truth bring freedom in your life?

Read Matthew 25:14-30

7) What did the master choose his servants to do?

8) How did each of them respond to their charge?

9) What was the result of their efforts when the master returned?

10) Do you identify with one of the three servants more than the others? Why?

11) Why is it important not to squander that which God has equipped us and chosen us to do?

12) How can we continue to invest the gifts the Lord has chosen to give to us?
