We ingrain Core Values within our children through precept and example.

Precept: a rule or principle that dictates how a person should act or behave.

Precepts should be stated as “one-liners” if at all possible.

God teaches us by precept and example.

This method of teaching works because:
1. Precepts are easy to remember.
2. Precepts make it easy for children to connect the rule or the principle with the situation at hand.

Life is full of teachable moments. Parents need to take advantage of those teachable moments to ingrain precepts within your children.

God’s precepts should affect our perspective on life.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 is saying:
(A) God’s precepts are supposed to be ingrained within us to the point that they affect everything that we do.
(B) We’re supposed to teach our children these precepts.
(C) The way we teach them is to look for teachable moments where we can simply state the precept that applies to the situation at hand.

Core Values: fundamental beliefs that dictate how a person should act or behave.

The difference between a precept and a core value:
A precept is either a rule or a principle.
A core value is a strongly held belief.

Precepts are powerful because they have the power to become Core Values.
