Vision of the Church Part 2: The Great Commission
Matthew 28:18-20
- The Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Matthew 27-28)
The Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20)
Jesus commands us to:
– Go. (Matt. 28:19, Gen. 12:1, Exodus 3:9-10, Acts 1:8, Acts 8:1-4)
– Make disciples. (Matt. 28:19)
– Of all Nations. (Matt. 28:19, Daniel 7:13-14)
– Baptize. (Matt. 28:19)
– Teach them to Obey. (Matt. 28:20)- Remember: He is with us to the very end of the age. (Matt. 28:20, 1 Thess. 5:1-11)

- What is something you enjoy making?
- How does the kind of disciple someone IS affect the kind of disciples they make? How are you involved in making disciples in your daily life?
- How does Jesus’ reassurance at the beginning and end of the Great Commission affect you?
Small Group Questions
- Icebreaker: What do you make which involves skilled craftsmanship?
- Think through the sermon and what you see throughout the Bible, then create a full definition for a disciple of Jesus.
- What parallels do you see between your answer in #1 above and the task of being faithful disciple makers?
- How does Jesus’ authority affect your role and methods in making disciples?
- Why is obedience so important to God?
- What do you need to learn in order to help a new believer embrace the basic first steps of discipleship?
