Acts 2:42-47 (ESV) 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe[a] came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

Proskarteo - To live in a constant state of relentless pursuit; persistent, ongoing, obstinate pursuit.

Devotions of the Early Church
1. They devoted themselves to

. Acts 2:42a, 42d And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching…and the prayers.

There is no such thing as being stagnant in our spiritual life. We are either moving closer to God or moving further away from Him.

2. They devoted themselves to community with

. Acts 2:42b,42c the fellowship, to the breaking of bread…

We are made for community because we are better together.

3. They were devoted to serving

. Acts 42:45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.

We are never more like Jesus than when we are serving Him or others. There is no higher calling than to be a servant.

Ephesians 3:20 (NLT) Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

We are not spiritual consumers. We are spiritual contributors.
