THE FRUIT OF JOY

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

  • We are admonished in the Word of God to

1. The Author Of Joy

  • The author of real abiding joy is . (Rom. 15:13; cf. James 1:17; John 15:11)
  • True joy is inseparable from our relationship with God and springs from our knowledge and understanding of the purpose of life and the hope of living with God for eternity.

2. The Avenue Through Which Joy Comes

  • Real joy comes through

  • There are 4 areas that we need to focus on in regards to our union with Christ.

    1) The joy of sonship (Lk. 10:20; Isa. 61:10)

    • Focusing on who you are, because of your faith in Christ gives you something to rejoice about.
    • Focusing upon the certainty and sureness of our eternal home with all of its joys, privileges, and blessings will produce joy in us.

    2) The joy of fellowship (John 15:1-11)

    • This embraces in Him - maintaining fellowship with Him.
    • There is a sense of highest joy that floods our souls when we recognize and realize that we are right with God.

    3) The joy of

    (Mt. 11:28-30; John 8:31-32; John 15:10-11)

    • The more we learn about Christ, the more we follow Him.
    • Discipleship is the very process of building Christ-like character into us which includes the fruit of joy.

    4) The joy of ambassadorship (2 Cor. 5:20)

    • When we are truly busy in carrying on Kingdom business, we will be with joy.

3. The Agent Which Imparts Joy

4. The Activation Of Joy (Rom. 15:13; 1 Pet. 1:8)

  • The element that activates this joy is seen in the term “

  • Joy is linked with faith and focus - not circumstances.

5. The Assurance Of Joy (Neh. 8:10; Ps. 16:11; Isa. 61:10)

  • Real joy keeps you going: real joy gives you assurance.
  • Let us serve the Lord and in so doing, be filled with JOY.

  • Because we feel connected to God and loved by Him it gives us the

    and boldness to approach Him to “find grace to help in time of need.” (Heb. 4:16)

  • And the grace that God provides is enough for everything in our lives.
