WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT LIFE

Then a new king came to the throne of Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph or what he had done. 9He told his people, “These Israelites are becoming a threat to us because there are so many of them. 10We must find a way to put an end to this. If we don’t and if war breaks out, they will join our enemies and fight against us. Then they will escape from the country.” 11So the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves and put brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down under heavy burdens…12But the more the Egyptians oppressed them, the more quickly the Israelites multiplied! The Egyptians soon became alarmed 13and decided to make their slavery more bitter still…15Then Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, gave this order to the Hebrew midwives… 16 “When you help the Hebrew women give birth, kill all the boys as soon as they are born. Allow only the baby girls to live.” 17 But because the midwives feared God, they refused to obey the king and allowed the boys to live, too… 20So God blessed the midwives, and the Israelites continued to multiply, growing more and more powerful.” (Exodus 1:8-20, NLT)

WHAT WE LEARN FROM THE HEBREW MIDWIVES

 1. MATTERS.

“a new king came to the throne… (Exodus 1:8, The Living Bible)

“When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan.” (Proverbs 29:2, NLT)

Issues about life are not political, they’re .

 2. THE DANGER BEGINS WHEN WE VIEW A LIFE AS A TO BE SOLVED INSTEAD OF A TO BE SAVED.

“[The king] said to his people, “These Israelites are so numerous and strong that they are a threat to us.” (Exodus 1:9, GNB)

Know that the LORD Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; (Psalm 100:3a, NASB95)

For the issue of abortion, the question is not, “Are you pro-life or pro-choice?”

The real question is, “

?”

 The Facts of Life:

1) Human life is differentiated from every other living thing (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:7).
2) Life begins at

(Psalm 51:5; Psalm 139:13).
3) The unborn are called in scripture (Luke 1:41; Luke 2:12).
4) Babies are uniquely by God (Psalm 139:13-16; Genesis 25:22–23; Isaiah 49:5; Galatians 1:15).
5) Unborn babies are by the law (Exodus 21:22-23).

3. FEAR AND MISINFORMATION PLANT THE SEEDS FOR WRONG .

“We must make a plan to keep them from growing even more.” (Exodus 1:10a, NLT)

“For they hated knowledge and chose not to fear the LORD.” (Proverbs 1:29, NLT)

4. A CULTURE OF DEATH COMES IN

.

“So the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves…They forced them to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses…But the more the Egyptians oppressed them, the more the Israelites multiplied and spread, and the more alarmed the Egyptians became. So the Egyptians worked the people of Israel without mercy.” (Exodus 1:11–13, NLT)

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.” (Proverbs 31:8–9, NLT)

5. HAVING A RIGHT IS DIFFERENT THAN .

“Then Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, gave this order to the Hebrew midwives…“When you help the Hebrew women as they give birth, watch as they deliver. If the baby is a boy, kill him; if it is a girl, let her live.”” (Exodus 1:15–16, NLT)

“But if people have doubts about whether they should eat something, they shouldn’t eat it. They would be condemned for not acting in faith before God. If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.” (Romans 14:23, NLT)

6. PUZZLING PROBLEMS ARE OFTEN CLARIFIED BY

.

“But because the midwives feared God, they refused to obey the king’s orders…” (Exodus 1:17, NLT)

“Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us…So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:26–27, NLT)

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life…” (Deuteronomy 30:19–20, NLT)

7. GOD BLESSES

, BUT NOT ARROGANCE.

“And God blessed the midwives because they were God-fearing women.” (Exodus 1:20a, The Living Bible)

“…God opposes arrogant people, but he is kind to humble people.” (James 4:6, GW)

“Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die…Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve.” (Proverbs 24:11–12, NLT)

8. GOD

US FROM EVERY SIN.

“What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thank God! It has been done by Jesus Christ our Lord. He has set me free. So there is now no condemnation awaiting those who belong to Christ Jesus. For the power of the life-giving Spirit—and this power is mine through Christ Jesus—has freed me from the vicious circle of sin and death.” (Romans 7:24-8:2, NIV / TLB)
