** He Shall Be Called - Day 12**

Life and Death Prophecy: The Messiah would have a brief triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem.

Scripture: Read the prophecy – Zechariah 9:9
Read the fulfillment – Mark 11:7 – 10

The O.T. prophet, Zechariah, prophesied that the Messiah would one day have a triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Some people would proclaim and honor Him as the long promised Messiah, the rightful Heir and King. These folks evidently believed that the nation would have a new king and hoped that the Messiah would conquer and drive out the Romans who enslaved them and established his kingdom with Jerusalem as the capital. Finally, after all these years justice would be restored and the people could live in peace and enjoy the blessings of freedom.

Jesus entered the city with the knowledge that He was the rightful king but it was not yet time to take control. Jesus rode a borrowed donkey – not a shiny stallion war horse. Jesus didn’t wear armor and wasn’t supported by a large company of attending soldiers. He just didn’t fit the image of the conquering king and hero for which the people had been waiting.

Q1. From the Mark 11 passage, what methods did the people use to show respect to Jesus? What methods do you think are proper to show Jesus respect today?

Q2. Do you think the people lining the road that day thought that He was the long-awaited Messiah? They were shouting Hosanna. What do you think they expected to happen when Jesus reached the city and announced Himself as the Messiah?

Q3. We know that within a week the crowd would change their cries from “Hosanna” to “crucify Him”. Why were they so quick to change from honor to rebellion?

Praise is rising, eyes are turning to You, we turn to You,
Hope is stirring, hearts are yearning for You
You are the God who saves us, worthy of all our praises,
We welcome You here, Lord Jesus
Hear the sound of hearts returning to You,
You are the God who saves us, worthy of all our praise
Hosanna, hosanna, Come have Your way among us

PRAYER FOCUS: Lord, someday we know that everyone will see You as the rightful King. Help me to live my life as an example to the people I meet that I love You, respect You, and follow You without question. The next time You come, it will be to conquer evil and judge the world. Give me courage to proclaim the gospel to as many folks as possible so they don’t stand condemned on judgment day.
