There is nothing more important about you than

We can either
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. —Proverbs 14:12 NIV
Jacob: Grasps the heel; liar and deceiver
Esau: Red and hairy
Before we dive in, it is important to remember:
We read the Old Testament for inspiration and motivation, but not application of the Old Testament law.
2“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth, will be blessed through you.” —Genesis 12:2-3 NIV
25The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau. 26After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.
27The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents. 28Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
29Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. —Genesis 25:25-29 NIV
Appetites will either be
Appetites are never
Appetites always whisper
29Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished. 30He said to Jacob, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!”
31Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.” —Genesis 25:29-31 NIV
Who would do that?
“Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?” —Genesis 25:32 NIV
When we get too
Impact Bias: The tendency to overestimate the length or the intensity of future feelings.
Focalism: The tendency to place too much focus or emphasis on a single factor or piece of information when making judgments.
32“Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”
33But Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.
34Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left.
So Esau despised his birthright.
